Cricket on Ice in New Zealand

Recently, a cricket match was held on ice in Auckland, New Zealand which involved some of the former New Zealand cricketers like Sir Richard Hadlee, Chris Harris, Dion Nash and current stars like Shane Bond and Kyle Mills. It was not a part of any tournament, rather the match was organized in order to raise fund for hurt patients.

Sir Hadlee, who himself suffered from heart problem in the past, started the match when he bowled the first ball of the match against Matthew Munro, a 12-year-old who already had two surgery on his heart. Regarding the experience of playing on ice, former New Zealand cricketer Dion Nash said that the surface was hard and quicker than conventional cricket wickets, but there was not much swing, and thus, requiring less feet movement.

Well, I am really happy to see that such a match was organized in New Zealand with a view to raising fund for heart patients. Moreover, organizing a match on ice surface was an unique decision and I think, the organizers have done a good job.

ICC Executive Board to Discuss ICL Issues in Dubai

Issues regarding the official recognition of Indian Cricket League (ICL) will be put forward once again in the upcoming ICC Executive Board meeting to be held in Dubai. ICL does not have official recognition of ICC because ICL, which is leveled as rebel league, is not recognized by BCCI, the regulatory board of Indian cricket. However, ICL, the brainchild of Essel group chairman Subhash Chandra, is hopeful about getting recognition of ICC. Subhash Chandra even threatened ICC to go for legal action, had ICL not been granted official recognition. He thinks that ICL should have the same status of IPL.

Wrath of BCCI on a New Zealand Cricketer

Sometimes, I find it very difficult to believe that the job is of BCCI is to promote cricket. In the first place, BCCI put a blanket ban on Indian Cricket League (ICL). It is not a popular move and every now and then we can see decent about it in various parts of the world. What perhaps is too much annoying is that BCCI officials try to dictate things even outside of the cricket field.

Hindustan Times wrote:

McMillan, who plays for the Kolkata Tigers in the unrecognized ICL, is set to stand-in for Ravi Shastri, who will be flying home to India on personal work and will miss the second Test match. The BCCI has stridently opposed the participation of players with ICL links in official cricket in any capacity. Already, earlier in the tour, Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik were withdrawn from a Masters Twenty20 match at the last moment because of the participation of Hamish Marshall in NZPCA XI.

Slumdog Millionaire actors back to Slum Again

Sometimes, fact is indeed more interesting than fiction. We perhaps understood this matter again by watching the fate of the child actors of the movie Slumdog Millionaire. They had their important role in ensuring the success of the movie in Oscar 2009 but now, they’re back to their miserable poor life and have started to suffer again. They are perhaps the only actors with an Oscar movie now who are living in slum.

Slumdog Millionaire: For and Against

“Slumdog Millionaire” may have created a lot of buzz in Hollywood and in western countries but it seems that not everyone is too much excited with it. Many Indian people feel that the movie is like some kind of insult as the poverty of the country has been showed only, not the other part- continuous high economic growth.
