Secondly, if you feel that there is any factual error please inform me too. Great job, Razib! I'm glad you saw so many interesting things happen during the World Cup this year. I agree that this was the first, or at least a breakout, Internet World Cup - after all, all any of us had to do to check the video highlights was visit YouTube right after each match!

Is this called 'get a life' or is this what having a life is all about?

It's a fine line, I suppose.

Hee hee, just kiddin'!!
I admire those who dig into anything.

"15. Except Ghana, no team from Africa could impress."

Replace "impress" with "make it to the knockout rounds" and you might have a point. I thought the Ivory Coast was quite impressive. 2-1 losses against both Argentina and Holland were rather good, considering the football pedigree of those nations.

More info:

- Portugal's keeper, Ricardo, was the first one ever to save three penalty shots in the same shot out, in the story of the World Cup.
- In the last Italian win of the World Cup (1982) there was a corruption scandal in Italian Football in the courts, envolving a lot of players, coaches and teams. The same happens this year...and they're world champions again.
- England and Spain are always appointed as favourites to the World Cup...thougn the best the spanish have accomplishes is a 4th place in 1950 and the english won the 1966 world cup...at home. Talk about overrated!
- The award for best player is decided before the final. In 2002 FIFA awarded Germany's goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, and he made an incredible error that gave Brazilian Ronaldo the 1-0 goal. This year they awarded France's Zidane and he is sent off by head-butting Italian's Materazzi...is there a curse in this award?

With regards to point 4, you could say that Schweinsteiger got a hat-trick in the 3rd place playoff...even though the free-kick went in off Petit.

Italy's 12 goals came from 10 different players. I believe this is also a record

Great job!! on those stats. Thank you.
