Cambridge University Press (CUP) is one of the largest and oldest publishing houses and its books and journals are sold all over the world. Until now, it did not have a strong direct presence in South Asia. However, this will change from now as CUP has bought 51% stake in the New Delhi based publishing house, Foundation Books Private Limited. CUP has taken this initiative to print and distribute its books in the Indian market. CUP will also sell books online in India. Right now, Cambridge University Press (CUP) is losing a huge amount of revenue every year due to piracy and by this initiative hopefully things will get for it.
Piracy of books in South Asia mainly takes place because of just two matters. The original book is not available easily. Secondly, a book printed in UK or USA is too expensive for the students. In UK, 100 pounds does not seem to be a lot of money but in India, it is the monthly expense of a middle class family. By printing books in India, CUP will be ale to address both the issues. On the one hand, original books will be available and they will become available at an affordable price.
