BPO (Business Processing Outsourcing) is more familiar to us than KPO (Knowledge Processing Outsourcing). We have heard many times about Indian success in BPO. Now, perhaps, the next big thing is KPO. I found in several Indian newspapers that according to a study, India has been identified as the most attractive destination for KPO. I am quoting from a report of India Times:
"It’s good news for Indian knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) firms. India is the most attractive destination for KPO activities, says a study by independent research company Asset Management in collaboration with Kelly Services. The study shows India will have a higher growth rate in KPO segment of 45% compared with 25% in the BPO segment. The latter will, however, remain the lead revenue earner and job creator due to the volume nature of this industry."
KPO is much more sophisticated than BPO and some of the fields covered by KPO are, 'Intellectual Property related services, Business Research and Analytics, Legal Research, Clinical Research, Publishing, Market Research (Market research KPO ) , etc.'
India has few distinctive advantages:
1. Huge pool of highly educated People
2. Skill of English Language
3. Cheaper salary compared to America
Of course, there are two big challenges regarding KPO:
1. Training workers for KPO is expensive.
2. Concern about the security and confidentiality.
It's very good news for India. Indians have already seen outstanding success in BPO. Hopefully, they can do the same for KPO. Needless to say that it is bad news for many western workers.
If you want to know about KPO more then you can read the Wikipedia entry on KPO.
