
India embraced free market economy in 1991 and in the last 15 years India has extended the idea of this kind of economy in all the industries. Before 1991, foreign products were like rare commodities in India and now you can find here everything. Indian Cricket was outside of this trend. Until now, Indian domestic cricket was free of foreign players. As a result, domestic cricket was not popular at all compared to international cricket. It seems that the time for change is near.
BCCI is now the richest cricket board in the world but its earning from domestic cricket is not satisfactory at all. So, BCCI is now seriously considering the idea of allowing foreign players to play in Indian domestic cricket. This will ensure more crowds and more money. I am happy for one thing. It will give Indian cricketers the experience to play with international stars. This will contribute in the overall development of Indian cricket.
Foreign players can play in English County Cricket and although England is not the best team in the world, its domestic cricket catches a lot of media attention. Foreign players play an important role in making County Cricket popular. India should do the same.
