![]() There are 3 question marks on the title because, it is not a confirmed news yet. I found out a report of Times of India. There is no official news from Google yet. However, there is high possibility of a Google's server farm in India as India is an attractive destination for outsourcing. I am quoting from the report:
" Though no further details of the project are available from the highly secretive firm, industry sources say that the Indian centre will be the company's second such facility in Asia and seventh globally.
Google is so cagey that people are yet to see a picture of Google's data centres anywhere in the world. Server farms hosts websites and also act as a store house for all information available on the internet.
It will store e-mails, blogs, photos, documents and chat records, and make it available to users when they demand it. Google's proposal to set up a server farm in India comes on the back of increasing number of internet users in the country.
A local server will allow users to access the internet faster and also save on access costs from international locations when volumes increase."
So, you can see that Google will have basically 2 benefits if they set up a server farm in India. The first and obvious benefit is that of cutting cost. The second benefit is that by this Google will be able to address the Asian market in a better way. Google is trying to have a stronger presence in all parts of Asia these days. So, I will not be surprised if Google actually goes ahead with a server farm in India.
It will indeed be a win-win situation for both India and Google. For India, it will result into a multi million (if not billion) dollar investment project and will create many jobs. On the other hand, other tech giants like Microsoft and Yahoo will feel encouraged to set up similar server farms in India. On the other hand, Google will get benefited from the cheap labor of India.
What is your idea about it?
