I am sure that Indian poultry farmers would rejoice the fact that India has started exporting eggs again. A shipment of egg had started its journey towards Muscat. Indian poultry sector suffered a lot since February 2006 when bird flu virus was detected in the country. The best thing that Indian government acted transparently and tried its best to tackle the issue. The poultry traders supported the government initiative and that is why earlier this month Indian government could confidently announce that India was a bird flu country. So, honesty and perseverance have paid off for the Indian poultry sector.
Oman responded to this matter first and decided to import eggs from India again. So, other Middle East countries would surely follow the example of Oman within a few days. Poultry has become a multi billion dollar industry in India. Before India was plagued by bird flu, the country exported more than 10 million eggs per month. Hopefully, the good day will come again very soon.
