This is perhaps another indication of the fact that Indian economy is growing fast. As a result of the continuous economic growth, many people can afford to have laptops according to IDC the sale of laptop has increased a lot in the last economic quarter in India. I am quoting from a Reuters report:
“Computer sales in India grew 19 percent to 1.25 million units during April-June from a year earlier, driven by a burgeoning notebook PC market, data tracking firm International Data Corp. (IDC) said on Tuesday.
Sales of notebooks, used by an increasingly mobile workforce, more than doubled to 219,000 units in the quarter to offset a sluggish desktop PC market, it said in a report.
Sales were strongest at the fancier end of the market, with the 52,500-65,500 rupee price band ($1,130-$1,400) seeing the fastest growth.”
Since Indian economy is flourishing, businessmen now feel the need of laptop more than ever before. Actually, if a company can come out with an attractive package then the sale of laptop will surge even higher. I feel a bit disappointed that the sale of desktop computers is not increasing that much. Millions of Indian families do not own a desktop PC yet.
It is really ironic that Indian government recently canceled the idea of giving a laptop to all the school children (the famous $100 laptop or One Laptop per Child). May be, decision makers in the Indian government feel that laptop is only for the rich people.

I am glad to hear that India’s economy is growing. I have met some Indians that changed my opinion about this country.
