Everyday, we read news of board room battle in the big companies and most of the time the battles are about running the company. It's not only on India but also in the west too. Owners and their children want to hang on to power. Thus, N.R. Narayana Murthy is a big exception. He has stepped down from the post of Chairman of Infosys Technologies as he became 60 years old. He and his colleagues made this system that at the age of 60 every employee must retire from the company so that young people can come and take charge. He did not try at all to stay in power although if he did I guess hardly anyone would oppose.
Mr. Murthy will 'continue as non-executive chairman and mentor.' I am really impressed with the professionalism of Narayana Murthy. His stepping down will make him more respectable to everyone. However, I really wish that he now tries to contribute in the development of IT sector in India. Indian government should consider involving him with the decision making processing in this sector. He can contribute a lot. I would like to thank Mr. Murthy for keeping his promise. I hope other business leaders could learn from him.
