Do you know who is India's Greata Garbo? Frankly speaking, I did not know who is India's Greta Garbo. So, I did a Google search on it and found that after Suchitra Sen was nominated for the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the media suddenly started to call her as India's Greta Garbo. Suchitra Sen has been given this simply because like Greta Garbo, she has been living a very secluded life after retiring from the film industry. Now, the million dollar question is whether she would break her seclusion and accept the Dadasaheb Phalke Award which is perhaps the most prestigious film award in India. It seems that she would not come into the public and this has caused astonishment in the media.

1. She is the most popular actress of Bengali cinema of all time. No actress in Bangladesh or India could come near to her popularity among the Bengali speaking people.
2. She was very successful in Bollywood movies too.
3. She was the first Indian actress to get award in an International film festival (Moscow film festival 1963).
While browsing about Greta Garbo, I found that except the seclusion matter, there is hardly any similarity between Greta Garbo and Suchitra Sen. Greta Garbo's life was full of scandals. On the other hand, Suchitra had a much quieter life and she was more focused on her acting than having scandals. Greta tried to create a physical appeal to the fans. " Garbo appeared very seductive as the World War I spy in the title role of Mata Hari (1931). The censors complained about her revealing outfit shown on the movie poster." Suchitra was just the opposite and that is why perhaps her fans still adore her so much. Greta was never of a family woman but Suchitra was a great wife and perhaps even greater mother and grandmother.
It is up to you to decide whether Suchitra Sen is really India's Greta Garbo. I don’t think she is. Do you?
