India has now a mobile phone user base of 108 million. On last month (July 2006) 5 million new users have embraced mobile phones. Well, it is a very impressive growth and the growth is likely to continue for many months to come. India has a population of over 1 billion and mobile phone operators are trying their best to present affordable services. So, this healthy growth will remain healthy for quite sometime. I am quoting from a Reuters report:
"India, the world's fastest growing wireless services market, added at least 5 million new mobile users in July, boosting its customer base to 108 million, data showed on Tuesday.
The Cellular Operators' Association - which represents nine GSM carriers - said 3.93 million customers opted for its services, while top CDMA provider Reliance Communications Ltd., said it added 1.1 million new users in July.
Three other CDMA carriers are yet to report their monthly figures."
The top companies that had huge growth in July are:
Bharti Airtel Ltd: 1.26 million users
Hutchison Essar Ltd.: 854,903 users
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.: 737,135 users
India has one of the lowest call rates for mobile phones in the world. And this is doing the magic here. It seems that this healthy growth will continue this month (August 2006) too. Do you think that this month 5 million news users will be added- or 6 million?
It is a huge market.
