These days, many of the global coffee giants are seriously targeting India as a lucrative destination. India has always been famous as a tea drinking country and Indian people never became addicted to coffee. Still, companies like Barista, Costa Coffee, Cafe Coffee Day and Barnie's are trying their best to have a strong presence in India. The Financial Express reported:
“As coffee culture gets bigger in India, a traditional tea drinking nation, domestic and international chains are lining up big expansion plans to the tune of nearly Rs 325 crore in the next 3-5 years.
Majors players like Barista, Costa Coffee, Cafe Coffee Day and Barnie's are already working overtime to expand their presence in the country and implement product portfolio overhauls. On the other hand, global player Starbucks Corporation is all set to make its India debut in 2007.”
Here are 5 reasons why global coffee giants is becoming so serious about India:
- The coffee market in India is expanding fast. Now is perhaps the best time to build a base in India. That is why, global coffee giants are coming to India now.
- Urbanization is expanding and more and more people are getting exposed to the taste of coffee. It is natural that some of them are becoming consumer of coffee.
- Coffee chain stores are perhaps the next big thing in Indian society. Drinking coffee is becoming a fashion for the urban young generation.
- With continuous high economic growth, the number of people with disposable income is growing. So, the demand of coffee can go only up for the next many years to come.
- Until now, Indian companies have not been able to build strong presence in the coffee market. So, if the global coffee giants come now, they will have mostly an empty field.
