For us, in the media world, it is just a mere statistics. Aviva is axing 4,000 jobs in UK by 2008. It is shifting 1,000 jobs to India. Of course, you can imagine rightly that workers in UK are extremely unhappy about this matter. 4,000 jobs is not a child’s play. I am quoting from a report of Guardian:
“Norwich Union owner Aviva is moving 1,000 jobs to India as it slashes its UK workforce by 11%.
Britain's largest insurer said 4,000 of its 36,000 staff would be axed by 2008 with half the losses coming through compulsory redundancies.
The company said it no longer needed as many workers because of the growing number of people buying insurance online.
Union leaders said they were "disgusted" by the job cuts, which came just a month after Aviva posted a 27% hike in half-year profits of £1.7 billion.”
I am sure that many people will follow the development of this move by Aviva. The only sad part is that this move will create bitterness about outsourcing to India among many workers in UK.
