I do not know if Coke and Pepsi officials in India have to started to celebrate already or not but they have surely found their strongest supporter in state government of Punjab. Punjab's health minister, Surinder Singla, had strongly supported the two cola giants and declared that there was no eveidence of cola products containing dangerous level of pesticide. I am quoting from a report of BBC:
“Mr Singla said that samples of Coke and Pepsi collected both from the market and from the manufacturers had the same level of pesticides as that permitted in drinking water.
He said that the tests were carried out by two separate laboratories in the state.
Mr Singla said the results of the tests led him to question the findings of the Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) which recently said that Coke and Pepsi contained "harmful levels" of pesticides.”
After the pesticide controversy began, it is perhaps the strongest support that came for Coke and Pepsi. However, the question is now if it is enough. Coke and Pepsi have suffered a lot in the last 5 weeks and the products suffered a setback in terms of sales. Now, the main focus of the two cola giants will be to get public confidence again and increase sales figures.
