Heart disease is never an inexpensive disease. It needs a lot of money to carry out treatments when you suffer from this disease. For India, it is too expensive. It seems that this disease will cost India not only thousands of lives but also $236 billion until 2015. Hindustan Times reported:
“Statistics show an alarming incidence of heart diseases among youngsters in India, said SK Gupta, senior cardiologist at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital.
Cases of heart diseases (per 1,00,000) increased from 145 males and 126 females in 1985 to 253 males and 204 females in 2000.
"According to one estimate, more than 260 people are succumbing to the diseases for every 1,00,000 people."
Gupta said the prevalence of coronary heart diseases among the urban population was more than three times compared to the rural populace.”
India is not the only country that will have to pay such a huge price because of heart diseases. The price of heart diseases for India, China and Russia will be:
India: $236 billion
Russia: $303 billion
China: $550 billion
According to World Health Organization (WHO), you can do three simple things to reduce the risk of heart attack:
Eat a healthy diet
Take regular physical activity
Avoid tobacco use
I feel that Indian government should take this matter seriously and arrange adequate campaign in the media to encourage people for the three things prescribed by WHO.
