![]() India is exporting many things these days. It is natural that the country is trying to increase its export. However, India is the only country that exports polio virus to other countries- a record for which India cannot be proud of. Indian government is now under serious pressure from World Health Organization (WHO) and other countries to eradicate polio. India is exporting polio to the following countries:
Nepal
Bangladesh
Namibia,
The Democratic Republic of the Congo
Angola
So, many countries! I am happy that now Indian government is determined to solve this problem. However, the number of polio infection is on the rise. I am quoting from a report of BBC:
“A total of 297 cases of the disease, which usually attacks children under five years, have been reported this year.
Particularly worrying has been the case of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh where 269 cases of the disease have been recorded.
Last year, only 66 cases of polio were recorded in India.”
Indian government has to try more to eradicate polio in India. For this, the country needs to invest more on its healthcare. Now, Indian government has set a target that it will eliminate polio by 2007. Let us hope for the best.
