![]() Indian auto market is growing very fast and by 2010 the size of this market is going to grow to 2 million units a year. Volkswagen bosses are interested to have a pie of this market but they are yet to finalize their strategy for the Indian market. It seems that they have reached into a concrete decision to make their presence felt in India. I am quoting from a report of Hindustan Times:
“German car maker Volkswagen said it will start rolling out small cars in India and a final decision on the plant location was expected in "weeks" time.
"We have done a research of the Indian market and we would be rolling out small cars first here, though we have a complete range of vehicles available," Volkswagen Group Research Director Wolfgang Steiger said.
He, however, declined to comment on when the car was expected to hit the Indian market, but said that modifications in the vehicle was "inevitable" considering the Indian road conditions were far more different from that in Europe.”
I hope that decision makers at Volkswagen do not take too long to decide. This is the best time to come to India. If Volkswagen officials take more time then they will only find themselves at a very crowded market.
