![]() This is a difficult question to answer. In India, there are several large and modern cities that are developing very fast. To the outside world, I guess Bangalore is very famous for its success in IT outsourcing. On the other hand, Mumbai is a very rich city with the stock exchange, Bollywood movies and Mumbai port. Kolkata has a rich tradition. Chennai and Hyderabad had seen impressive economic success in the last 5 years. Why should I forget to mention Delhi, the Indian capital? However, until now, there was no comprehensive study on the cities in India. That is why, I am very happy that Indicus Analytics has published a great report "The City Skyline of India 2006". Well, the report is not free to download but you can download some pages from the website.
From the report, I could the name of 10 topmost Indian cities. They are (in alphabetic order):
Ahmadabad
Bangalore
Chennai
Coimbatore
Delhi
Hyderabad
Kolkata
Mumbai
Pune

Dozens of city names can be added even by a child but it depends. Your question has to be specific. I have also gone through the report; its rankings have been given seperately for criteria relating to earning, investing and living. If the criteria are weather, pollution and people's behaviour, the list would be different.
