What happened to World Trade Center (WTC) Scrap?
Ever wondered what happened to World Trade Center (WTC) scraps after 9/11? They did not end up in any museum but the scraps were brought to India by some traders and recycled. The same thing is happening to the scraps of Iraq these days. India has a flourishing scrap recycling industry and Fatehgarh Sahib district has become very famous in this regard. Of course, this district has been famous for its steel industry for many years.

WTC scraps have now made this place even more famous. I am quoting from a report of Hindustan Times:
In 2002, about 70,000 tonnes of scrap found its way to India, amid fear of toxicity, and of that, 10,000 tonnes reached this town. Parveen Kumar, a former manager at Patiala Castings, which imported the scrap, says that the WTC scrap metal was purchased at US $90 to $110 per metric tonne. “Though Mandi Gobindgarh received scrap from around the world for several years, our handling of the WTC scrap made sure our skills in converting waste metal became known globally,” Kumar says.”

So, now you know what has happened to the WTC scrap. Indian traders are trying to become the best in this business. They are searching all the countries in the world for scrap metals and then bring them to India. I guess whenever they hear of any devastation they can smell some profit in it. I am just happy for one reason. This industry is creating a lot of jobs in India.

Who cares as long as some is in our new awsome WARSHIP the NewYorker.Stop freakin whining. We are an economic superpower. If you don't like us then too bad.Go home to where you came from.Let Bush do his job.Not everything is cake with frosting on it.Dam I hate you cry babies. It happened move on.Besides it's scrap metal.doesn't anyone understand how econimics works?

Shut up you facist idiot

yea that first comment is totally unnacessary. i mean, the author has not defaced US, nor has talked significantly good about India. Just has made an observation. doesnt require you to say go back to your country or whatever. just keep an open mind. we're becoming a global economy, a global village. dont you know? or are you from bumblefuk, Arizona, USA ?

There is many things wrong with this. With an almost certain investigation after 9/11, I would think the FBI, CIA and other government agencies, along with private investigators, would want to look into the metal. They would certainly test it for explosives, how the trade center crumbled to the ground, how jet fuel weakened the steel(Just look up the compound structure of jet fuel on the periodic table of elements and see how hot it burns, certainly not hot enough to melt certified steel)and other evidence that would help in understanding the tragedy. Nope…they ship it off to India with no questions. Doesn’t that seem just a little funny?

Two,We have our own recycling of scrap metal on the east coast. It is still a major part of Pittsburg’s industry, which is the home of many state of the art facilities which the state is known for, they even have a football team named for it... Pittsburg Steelers, come on. It is the backbone of GMC, Ford and many high-rise contractors. It would be more profitable to keep it in the US than to ship it off across the sea and import it back to the US. Makes little to no sense

Third, I think the whole thing is hogwash. Great for India, but who benefits here? Behind every idea, you must think, who stands to benefit? Who is making money off this and go from there. History has NEVER changed when it comes to wealth and prosperity. I won't say what I really think because our first amendment is being slaughtered like a farm pig. Patriot act...WAKE THE BLEEP UP AMERICA! I know I already have MANY supporters that firmly stand behind me including a great deal of engineers, scientist, Dr's and lawyers. Everyone else that don't believe, I guess just aren't smart enough to think for themselves which is why the Electoral College was established in the first place. I know where I stand, do you?

i dont remember hearing the steel beams melting, they simply were just heated enough to bend under all the weight above them.

i want you to contact me for more information.

i am attempting to do a finite element structural analysis on the building but it is nearly impossible to find any structural specifications. the US is no longer our country, it is owned by the mega wealthy and defended by the poor citenzens that choose not to think for themselves.

evry time we were known that the scrap was sell in China...
have you some other links for the scrap?
