Hotels often give some discount to the customers to make them happy. Well, by discount we normally understand 5%, 10% or may be at best 20%. Can you ever think of having a discount of 102%? Well, sometimes unexpected things happen and it has happened in India. Taj Hotels has offered discounts in its Dera restaurant for the senior citizens in a part of its celebration of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of India. The discount was offered according to the meals according to the age of the old customers. For example, if you are 75 years old you would get 75% discount on your bill. So, when Jamna Das, a 102 year old man, came to eat here the hotel employees got surprised.
I am quoting from a report of Gulf News:
“A 102-year-old man walked out of a five-star hotel here with a discount matching his age after having a sumptuous lunch with his family.
The centenarian Jamna Das availed himself of a special discount on Monday offered by the Taj hotel's specialty Indian restaurant called Dera.
The hotel had offered to give discounts to senior citizens matching their age on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.”
The hotel staffs never expected that an old man of over 100 years would come to their restaurant. So, they were surprised but happy and gave Mr. Das 102% discount. First they did not take any money from him and thus Mr. Das got 100% discount. What about the other 2%? Well, the staffs gave him a gift and thus covered the rest 2%. This is interesting and good business tactics by the management of Taj Hotels. This incident brought them some free promotion and media coverage.
