India has a population of over 1 billion. Providing food for this huge number of people is becoming a growing concern for the country. India normally does not need to import food grain much and even it exports some agricultural products to the neighboring countries. However, this year had a different scenario. India needed to import a huge quantity of wheat from other countries.
The good news is that according to Indian Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar India wont have to import wheat next year because of this year’s good rainfall in the wheat growing areas. India should not neglect its agriculture sector. Most people in India are still involved with farming for their livelihood. Secondly, Indian economy is still not in a position that the country can afford to import agricultural products in huge quantity like rich countries.
