![]() Many of us are not aware of the amazing development achieved by Indian companies and Indian workers in the semiconductor industry. 20 years ago, hardly anyone in India knew about this industry but now it has become a multi-billion dollar industry in India. So, it gives me a lot of satisfaction to write here about made in India chips. I am happy to note that it is coming as early as 2007.
“SemIndia, a consortium with investments from strategic partners, will roll out its first batch of chips by June 2007 from its Hyderabad facility and has already procured orders to the tune of $400 million.
The consortium is setting up the first phase of the project, an ATMP (assembly, testing, mark and packaging) plant with an estimated investment of $100 million, which would be funded through $30 million equity and $70 million debts.”
It shows that India is becoming a major force in the tech world. Of course, India is a long way behind than Asian countries like Japan, Korea and Taiwan but India is trying. If the first chip of India becomes successful then it will encourage other Indian companies.
