This has come from World Bank managing director Graeme Wheeler. He predicted today in a media conference that India would emerge as the third largest economy in the world by as early as 2025. So, Indians will have to wait for just 19 years. This is good news for the country and Indian leaders can celebrate. Well, not all the Indians will have enough reasons to celebrate. In India, poverty is still a major of concern for millions of people. Illiteracy and unemployment are often associated with poverty in India.
So, Indian decision makers should not only celebrate from the news but also be prepared for the future. They should focus more on alleviating poverty. Indian government officials and the media are too much engaged with celebrating the high economic growth instead of thinking about the condition of the poor people. The sad part is that Indian economy is growing at a pace of 8% but this economic growth is not creating too many job opportunities. So, there is no respite for the poor and unemployed people- no matter India becomes the third largest or second largest economy in the world.
