![]() I covered the documentary of Channel 4 (The Data Theft Scandal) about the Indian call center industry in my two blogs. I predicted that it would create a strong reaction in UK. Well, it seems that my prediction has come true. Guardian reported:
“The main privacy watchdog said yesterday it will investigate allegations made in a Channel 4 Dispatches programme that financial records for hundreds of thousands of Britons were put up for sale by Indian call centre staff.
The information commissioner said evidence of illegal buying and selling of personal information on the programme was deeply concerning and needed further investigation. David Smith, the deputy commissioner, said: "We are concerned by any breaches of security, particularly if they involve confidential banking details."
It will be interesting to note what the watchdog can find in India. Well, I still think that UK companies cannot afford to stop outsourcing call center jobs to India. They outsource their jobs to save cost not to help India. However, that does not mean that Indian call centers can afford to not give importance to data security.
