It is big news now: BCCI is gong to bid for buying the television rights of ICC global events. After next year’s world cup, ICC’s new eight-year slice of television rights is going to begin. In that eight-year period (2007-15), 18 ICC tournaments will take place. BCCI is the first national cricket board to bid for TV rights. I guess that BCCI will win this contest easily too as it has enough cash. However, what makes me surprised is that BCCI is becoming so obsessed with this kind of matter. The performance of Indian cricket team is not up to the mark at all.
So, I guess that BCCI officials should focus more on developing the performance of Indian team instead of going after ICC TV rights. BCCI bosses are acting in a way as if India is defeating after other nations and Indian team has got bored from winning too many matches. Really, I cannot find any positive aspect of BCCI winning the TV rights. Instead, I would like to see that each and every BCCI official dedicate their time and effort for making India the World Cup champion next year or 2011. India has not won World Cup yet since 1983. 23 years is too a long time for Indian fans.
