Today, after few hours, UK’s channel 4 will broadcast the documentary about Indian call center industry, The Data Theft Scandal. Since it will be aired on prime time, I am sure that it will have a very large audience. In the website of Channel 4, it is written about the documentary:
“In the UK, Turton meets a former data thief and people who have fallen victim to this international trade. She also shows her undercover footage and findings to a UK data protection lawyer who is appalled, saying: 'You couldn't scare me more. This is as bad as it gets. This is evidence of serious criminal offences.'”
Naturally, we can expect a bad reaction from the British people and the British media about outsourcing to India. Particularly, trade union leaders will have now something substantial to argue their case against outsourcing. So, there will be an intense on British companies about this matter. However, I don’t think that British companies can stop outsourcing jobs to India even if they want.
British companies went for outsourcing in the first place to cut back on their cost. As long as India can provide cheaper workforce, British companies cannot afford to stop outsourcing of their jobs. The only thing they can do is to change the place. If they are unhappy with India then they can go to Philippines, Pakistan or may be east Europe.
