![]() Success in Information Technology (IT) has given India a name in the world’s economic map. Now, many people in the world know India as the outsourcing power or emerging economic power instead of a poor country. After IT, it is the turn of biotech to shine. Well, it seems that this industry has already shone in the international stage for India. The only is left is the media to present this success story. India has already become the second largest force among Asia-Pacific countries in biotech industry. Indian biotech industry had a turnover of $1.6 billion in 2005. SO, it has already become a billion dollar industry for India.
If India can continue the growth then its biotech industry will emerge as the largest in the world within a few years. India has all the ingredients for success. It has a large number of students. So, biotech companies can easily get skilled workers with a cheap salary. Secondly, Indian entrepreneurs in this field are trying their best for success. Most of all, India is very rich in biodiversity. So, biotech companies can easily find the necessary natural raw materials.
What this sector needs perhaps is support from the government. The government does not to give any money to the biotech companies but should allocate enough funds for university research projects.
