It is big news indeed- a poor country like India has now 83,000 millionaires. Tis item has been covered by many websites across the world. It shows that Indian economy is growing and some people are becoming millionaire. The Hindu wrote:
“The country's richie-rich club expanded to 83,000 millionaires last year, witnessing a whopping 19.3 per cent growth rate - the second highest in the world, a latest study shows.
Indian high net worth individuals (HNWIs) held 290 billion dollars in assets at the end of 2005, representing 3.8 per cent of total Asia Pacific HNWI wealth, according to Asia-Pacific Wealth Report released by Merrill Lynch and Capgemini today.”
With the continuous economic growth, India is going to have more millionaires and even billionaires in the coming years. However, what I am worried is that the media is gradually forgetting the plight of poor people. If India has now 83,000 millionaires, it has more than 83 million extremely poor people who even cannot have 3 decent meals a day. The number of unemployed people is also increasing in the country.
