Many of us have learnt that health is wealth. Well, Indian decision makers seem not to believe in this proverb. “Serve the Essentials”- a report published by Oxfam has clearly shown the poor condition of India when it comes to health concerns. IHT reported:
“Nearly 800 million Indians live without sanitation, 170 million have no access to clean drinking water and a woman dies giving birth every five minutes, an aid agency said Thursday, urging the government to do more to provide basic services.
The problems are starkest in India, a country of more than 1 billion people that is positioning itself as an emerging global power.”
The sad part is that India`s health worse than neighbours. India is not exactly surrounded by rich neighbors in South Asia.
Well, this is the problem with Indian decision makers. They are too much absorbed with the idea of making India a global power. So, they adopt only pro-rich policies. Thus, it really does not matter to them that nearly 170 million people cannot drink safe water. Instead, if possible they want to construct 170 new special economic zones (SEZ) with world class facilities.
Am I wrong?
