Even 2 weeks ago, hardly anyone talked about dengue fever in India. Suddenly, in the last 100 hours, dengue seems to become something like a national crisis. This shows the strength of the mosquitoes. These tiny insects can attack very fast and kill enough people to cause a health hazard of such great magnitude. In the last 6 weeks, 14 persons have died after being infected by dengue. BBC reported:
“On Monday health officials launched a massive drive to contain an outbreak of dengue fever in the capital, Delhi.
Thousands of workers fanned out across the city spraying pesticides as part of a door-to-door campaign.
Dengue fever can lead to headaches, high fever and other flu-like symptoms, and even to brain haemorrhage.”
What I understand is that in the coming months, the attack of dengue amay become even more fatal as October and November are the ideal months for the mosquitoes to become larger in number. I really wish that Indian government and the media come forward to fight against dengue. If the situation becomes out of control then the tourism sector will suffer a lot. I hope Indian officials don’t forget the history SARS outbreak that devastated China and its neighboring countries in 2003. Of course, dengue condition in India is nothing compared to SARS but Indian government should be on high alert and not let the situation go out of control.
