![]() This may sound like a dream but it is true. America is the country that brain drains countries like India. Now, it is India that is brain draining. American students are now coming to India in search of jobs. Here is how the International Herald Tribune describes it:
“Where once the brains of India left for more lucrative pastures in the United States, today a handful of fresh American college graduates are trickling in to sample the fruits of the Indian economic boom.
The change testifies not only to the fact that India, long idolized as a spiritual mecca, is emerging as a place to fulfill material aspirations. It also signals the efforts of Indian companies to extend their global reach and recognition, particularly as they face a crunch in finding qualified homegrown talent.”
Reading this really feels good. Till now Westerners have been coming to East in search of Spirituality. Now, they are coming for fortune. However, this proves another major weakness of India. Quality is more important than quantity. India may have a very large population but there are not many highly educated and skilled persons. Indian policy makers should emphasize on the spread of education. No matter, what the government does, without well-educated and well-trained work force, no country can achieve development in true sense.
