Wal-Mart is a popular topic in the blogosphere. Emotion can really run very high when a story on the company hits the front page of a social bookmarking site. Well, this news will not create any controversy. Wal-Mart is becoming a big fan of India. While other US companies are outsourcing their works to India, Wal-Mart is sourcing products from India to other countries. Last year, Wal-Mart sourced more than $400 million of products from India. This year, the figure is going to cross $600 million. So, you can see an increase of 50%.
Textiles, apparel, fine jewelry- these are products that Wal-Mart mainly buys from India. Wal-Mart is trying to open its stores in India but has not got the clearance from the Indian government yet. I guess that when Wal-Mart will start to buy products of $1 billion then Indian government will have to allow Wal-Mart to open its retail stores in India. Who wants to lose billion dollars? I know at least Indian government doesn’t.
