A few weeks ago, I wrote about Disney’s initiative to produce high quality programs in Indian language. In fact, Disney has bought an Indian television channel by paying $30.5 million in July of this year. It shows that Disney is trying to capture a market share in its niche in India. Disney is now aggressively pursuing the idea of selling of its products through retail stores. IHT reported:
“Walt Disney Co. has tied up with an Indian partner to sell its products in India as part of efforts to expand its presence in one of the world's fastest growing markets, a company official said Monday.
The Burbank, California-based company plans to unveil the details of the agreement with the Jaipuria Group later this week, spokesman K.R. Seshasayee said.”
The number of middle class people with disposable income is increasing in India. So, Disney is in the right place at the right time. Other major players in this niche should learn from Disney.
