India is emerging as one of the top online markets. Yahoo and Microsoft both are present in this market. However, some Indian online portals are also trying to capture the market. Until now, different online portals did not give importance to the Indian languages and were mainly focused with English. Rediff.com recently offered its messenger in Hindi language and it created enormous enthusiasm among many users. Now, Yahoo! has joined this market and is offering chat facilities in Hindi and Tamil language.
“There are 70m-80m English speakers out of India's 1.1bn-strong population and many also do not speak Hindi.
Yahoo's local language service allows computer users with English-language keyboards to type phonetically in Hindi and Tamil and have their words automatically converted to these scripts.
It plans to include more Indian languages in its chat service over the next six months and will eventually offer local language email.”
The market of regional language has huge potential for Yahoo. Take the case of Bangla language. It is one of the top seven languages in the world. So, if Yahoo supports Bangla then it will have a lot of enthusiastic users in India and Bangladesh.
You can know about chatting in Hindi and Tamil from Yahoo’s website.
