Bangalore is a familiar name to all of us. Bangalore is the heart of Indian IT industry and it has offices of all the major tech companies of the world. Now, the name has been changed to Bengalooru by the state government of Karnataka. This decision has been taken to make the local political parties calm. Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli, Shimoga, Belgaum and Hospet- these 7 cities have been renamed.
Well, from business point of view, changing name of a city is not a good thing to do. I mean the name of a city is like brand name. At first, it will create some confusion. On the other hand, I support this change simply because they reflect the local culture. The name Bangalore is an anglicized version of the original name. So, by renaming the city as Bengalooru the state government is showing respect to the local language and culture. That is why, I like it. Secondly, Bengalooru is not a difficult name that we will have problem to pronounce.
What is your idea about this whole matter?

I think it is just a political gimmick. The people of karnataka never really asked for it so there is no regionalism issue involved here. plus the name change is nothing much of a change either. it is just the kannada spelling that is now being stressed. These towns had never lost their original names.
