If you just do a Google search about learning English you will it will bring you 208,000,000 results. In a country like India, skill in language is a vital thing. It can make or break your career. Specially, flourishing outsourcing industry has created a strong demand for workers who are skilled in English language. Specially, Indian workers need to get more skilled in spoken English. On the other hand, Indian companies need more support about spoken English too. IBM is a world leader in speech technology and IBM India Research Lab is going to offer a technology in this regard soon.
CIOL.com reported:
“No more to be worried over your poor spoken English and Grammar. IBM India Research Lab, based in IIT Delhi has come up with a web enabled interactive language technology for improving spoken English. This innovative technology helps BPOs evaluate language skills and identify areas for improvement by highlighting shortcomings and providing examples of correct pronunciation and grammar.
Ashish Verma, Senior Researcher, IBM India Research Lab, said that based on speech recognition and other advanced speech processing techniques, this technology has the potential to help develop the language skills that are absolutely necessary for an individual, company, region and country to compete in a global labor market.”
IBM has already carried out some tests in this regard and most probably within a few months, IBM will start to offer this service for BPO companies and educational institutions.
I could not find any information about the price of this technology. However, since IBM has taken India seriously, I feel that IBM would not make it too expensive.
