In this age of technology, Internet domain address is a very important thing for the organizations and individuals. We know that almost all the countries have their own country codes in domain name. For example, if in the end of a website address we have the .pk extension, we know that it is from Pakistan or related to Pakistan. .in is the country code for India.
The good thing is that the demand for .in domain has started to increase rapidly. For example, since January 2005, nearly 200,000 domains have been registered with .in extension. The interesting thing in this is that nearly 37% of these domains have been registered from outside of India. This shows that India is becoming an important country in the cyberspace. DNA India reported:
“While 63 per cent registration of .in domain was from India, 37 per cent were registered outside India. Over 150 countries have .in domain owners, out of which the most popular countries, which account for 81 per cent are India, US, and Germany, followed by the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Switzerland and Italy.”
Thus, .in domains have got truly international characteristics. Indian government is actively promoting the expansion of Internet in India. I guess that this effort is paying off in a good way.
