The ascendency of India as an economic world power

These days, politicians, business leaders and the journalists are too much excited with the continuous high economic growth achieved by India. They often forget that India has a lot of problems. They are more eager to celebrate the success in outsourcing than trying to improve the condition of rural people. I am happy that Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen has come out and pointed the failures of Indian government in childcare and nutrition.

The Hindu reported:

Though India had made progress in the social and economic sectors it has failed in the field of childcare and nutrition, which is a "terrible" handicap for the country, Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen said here on Tuesday.

"India is in a peculiar position today. While it has made substantial progress in certain areas, there have been major failures too. Nothing has been as dramatic as the failure to provide fair and just arrangement for the well-being and growing up of our children," said Prof. Sen at the Bal Adhikar Samvad - a national convention on children's rights.

I really cannot understand that how Indian leaders hope that without paying attention to the children India can sustain high economic growth! I wish that Indian leaders give more attention to the major problems of the country. India is growing fast- no doubt about that but very few people are enjoying the benefits of this growth.
