India: It’s Time for Garage Culture

No, Indians are not buying or selling anything in their garage. Instead, some talented and hardworking Indian entrepreneurs are setting up start up companies in their garages and trying to make them successful. Well, some of the top tech companies in the world were literally born in the garages of their respective owners. Mercury News reported:

The founders of newly launched Kreeda Entertainment come from New York City, Belgium and Bangalore.

Their headquarters in India? A garage.

The start-up culture is indeed coming to this South Asian country.

``We were concerned about bringing the venture capitalists here,'' admitted co-founder Quentin Staes-Polet standing outside the cramped and damp office of his online game company with a staff of 15.

This is indeed a very good sign for the Indian economy. Even if just a few of the start up companies can become successful they would create a lot of new jobs and also bring more money for the Indian economy. Until now, Indians are mainly working in western companies in India and India is more known to the world as a great place for outsourcing, rather than a place of innovation. I hope that this will change soon.

Remember Sabeer Bhatia- co-founder of hotmail? India really needs a lot of persons like him now.
