The ascendency of India as an economic world power

Car racing is not exactly a popular sport in India but the number of rich people with disposable income is increasing as a result of the continuous high economic growth. And thanks to cable TV channels, many Indians are aware of Formula One racing. I am happy to note that India is going to host F1 race soon.

Leading businessman Vijay Mallya said after signing a sponsorship agreement between his Kingfisher Airlines and the Toyota team that he was confident the sport would come to the sub-continent.

"It has always been my dream to bring Formula One to India," he told a news conference on the sidelines of the launch of Toyota's new TF107 car.

"The government of Delhi I think really wants Formula One in India and I am optimistic that maybe we will be able to host our first race in 2009."

This will surely help to increase India’s image as an investment destination. After all, rich businessmen seek golf and F1 racing and India is trying to give them both. So, all you have to do is to wait just 2 years.
