The ascendency of India as an economic world power

There are times when it becomes difficult for us to understand the Indian decision makers. AXN Channel has been banned in India for two months as according to the Indian government, the channel aired indecent program.

Forbes reported:

Dasmunsi objected to AXN, a unit of Sony (nyse: SNE - news - people ) Pictures Entertainment, broadcasting the show "the World's Sexiest Advertisements," which the minister said was "indecent content" that was "against good taste or decency and is likely to adversely affect public morality."

India is deeply conservative when it comes to any sexual content in television and film. Until recently, even kissing was unacceptable.

Public morality? I wonder if the Minister watches Bollywood movies these days. Some actresses in Bollywood are in a cut throat competition of wearing shorter dresses. I guess that does not affect the public morality because Bollywood movies provide a huge amount of revenue to the government. Bollywood movies are also contributing in the increase of export earning too. On the other hand, AXN Channel is a foreign channel and it does not contribute to India. So, Mr. Dasmunsi feels that AXN should be punished.
