The ascendency of India as an economic world power

NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Service Companies) has set a target of $60 billion from IT Exports by 2010. This is somewhat ambitious goal and not everyone is sure if India can really achieve this target. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh feels that $60 billion is a modest target and he wants that India should have $80 billion from IT Exports by 2010.

Zee News reported:

"We must be more ambitious and considering the way in which our economy and exports are rising. We should be looking at a target of $80 billion by 2010," he said at the concluding session of a three-day seminar organised by NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Service Companies).

"Obviously such growth targets will not come easily. Competition from around the world is growing. We need to work hard to retain our edge and even harder to increase our share of the world market," Manmohan Singh added.

The industry has set a target of $60 billion by 2010.

Addressing issues that are posing as challenges for the growth of the industry, the prime minister said: "I am aware that we have to improve the quality of our infrastructure and our human resource base.

Manmohan Singh is a smart leader but he has to understand the ground reality too. I am not saying that India does not have the potential to earn Wants $80 billion from IT exports by 2010. If India really wants to achieve this target then Indian government has to give all out support to the IT sector.
