The ascendency of India as an economic world power

In any sports, confidence is a vital matter. If you are not confident then you can never win. I am happy that Indian captain Rahul Dravid is confident that his players can play well in West Indies. Indian performance in foreign grounds has not been good in the last 10 years and that is why India is not the favorite team to win World Cup Cricket 2007.

India, who lost the ODI series in West Indies 4-1 during their trip to the Caribbean last May will be hoping to take lessons from that defeat as Rahul’s team remains the only international squad to have travelled to the Windies before the World Cup.

However, India’s success at the World Cup will depend on how the players’ form and fitness lasts the distance, should the team once again manage to enter the finals of the World Cup.

However, captain Rahul believes that he has a team that will do well in the kind of conditions that await them in the West Indies – with slow wickets likely to greet them at most venues.

The 15-man squad chosen for the World Cup is not very different from the one that took India to the final in South Africa four years back.

Rahul Dravid may be very confident about Indian success in World Cup Cricket 2007 but I am not. I really wish that Indian players could focus on Cricket first and then on earning money through sponsorship.
