World Cup 2007: Virender Sehwag and Team India

I have to apologize to the readers of this blog as I could not update the blog for sometime. In fact, I am extremely busy with covering World Cup Cricket 2007 in my other blog, SouthAsiaBiz. If you are a fan of World Cup Cricket then you can visit SouthAsiaBiz as you can find extensive coverage of World Cup Cricket 2007 there.

Today, I was searching in Internet about India and the only thing I could find in Google News was World Cup Cricket. I could find hardly any news item about Indian business or politics. So, stay with me as I cover World Cup Cricket 2007 in the next few days.

Unfortunately, no news is good news for Team India at the moment. India’s loss against Bangladesh has come as a big blow to Indian fans. Now, some of the former cricketers feel that Virender Sehwag should be left out of the Indian team in the next match.

Reuters reported:

The 28-year-old batsman looked unsure in the middle and lasted just six deliveries of India's Group B opener before dragging a Mashrafe Mortaza delivery onto his stumps in the third over to be dismissed for two, triggering a collapse.

"Before this match I believed he should be tried. But the way he got out, I am in two minds whether he should be persisted with on past performances," former captain Ajit Wadekar told Reuters on Sunday.

Winners in 1983 and finalists in the last tournament, India need to win their remaining two matches against Bermuda on Monday and former champions Sri Lanka on Friday to be sure of advancing to the Super-Eight phase.

Sehwag has hit just one fifty in his last 14 innings and chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar had disclosed recently that the player was only picked for the World Cup at the specific request of skipper Rahul Dravid.

Kiran More feels that Sehwag should not participate in tomorrow’s match against Bermuda. Well, if you ask me then I would say that Rahul Dravid is not a good captain. He is a good batsman but he cannot take the pressure of captaincy.

The World Cup 2007 is not looking the same without India and Pakistan. It is a great

shock that the two neighbouring asian countries, known for their fierce rivalry and for the passion of their cricket fans, is not taking part in the tournament. They have been moved out from group stage matches. They have only themselves to blame as they played poor cricket and
deserved to be knocked out. I think the players let their teams down when the whole world was watching carefully.

I am just hoping that the World Cup will get the rhythm again and become a lot more interesting in the coming days but the 2007 edition will always be remembered for Bob Woolmer’s murder rather than for the results during the event.
