The ascendency of India as an economic world power

Who will be the next Indian coach- this is perhaps literally a million dollar question now. Everyday, we are hearing new names. Dav Whatmore is one of the top names in this context. Dav Whatmore is now the coach of Bangladesh cricket team. He has a great track record. Under his coaching, Sri Lankan team became 1996 World Cup Cricket champion.

Whatmore has done wonders with teams that he had coached and Bangladesh's success at the World Cup is a strong evidence that he is a master of the art of coaching.

There were reports in the Indian media that Whatmore has been contacted by the BCCI for the post after coach Greg Chappell stepped out.

However, Whatmore denied that he had any offer from the Indian board.The Sri-Lanka born Australian said he would keep his options open if such an offer is made.

"No not yet. I am a professional cricket coach who has had success with every team that I have been with – Sri Lanka, Lancashire and Bangladesh. As a professional coach, you consider any opportunity that comes along and if they come along there will be due consideration," Whatmore was quoted as saying in The Gulf Times.

Indian cricket is full of politics and factionalism. So, there is no guarantee that Dav Whatmore will be selected in the first place. Even if Dav Whatmore gets the job, I have strong doubt whether he can perform any miracle for Team India.
