The ascendency of India as an economic world power

Indian economy is shining and Indian government is now eager to host some sports events. International sporting events may bring some cash for the host country but Indian government is now more concerned with uplifting the image of the country than earning any money.

Asian Games is not exactly a money making sporting event but Indian officials are eager to win the right to host 2014 Asian Games.

Justifying that New Delhi was the right choice for the Asian Games, both Indian Minister for Women and Child Welfare Renuka Chowdhary and IOA Chief Suresh Kalmadi said the venue was deliberately chosen as the city was the venue for the first Asiad in 1951 and all necessary infrastructures would be in place after the Commonwealth Games in the city in 2010.

"Delhi is the birth place for the Asian Games and it is but appropriate to host the games in the Indian capital if it returns after a long gap of 32 years. Besides, Delhi would have the necessary infrastructures after the Commonwealth games," Kalmadi added.

If India can win the bid to host 2014 Asian Games then it would be great for New Delhi. Asian Games may help India to promote itself as a great tourist destination. India is already a hotspot for the tourists and 2014 Asian Games can help India a lot in this regard. Let us see if India can get it.
