The ascendency of India as an economic world power

POSCO is one of the top names in steel world. It is one of the top 3 steel producers in the world. POSCO officials are always fighting against other steel giants but now they will have to fight against farmers and their children. POSCO is in India with its $12 billion invest in the coastal state of Orissa. A huge plant will be built and that requires a huge amount of land.

Many farmers will lose their land and they are unhappy with it. The farmers are desperate to save their land and if needed they will use their children as protective shield.

Villagers of Dhinkia and nearby villages in the eastern coastal state of Orissa, where South Korea's POSCO <005490.KS> is planning the $12 billion plant, have put up bamboo gates to try to prevent police forcing them off their land.

Clashes between supporters and opponents of the project injured 50 people last month, and protesters say a showdown with police could take place any time.

"The children are our greatest strength," Abhay Sahu, of a local body formed to protest against the project, said.

This is not a rosy picture for Indian government or POSCO. Of course, the state government of Orissa is the first to suffer from any bloodshed. Officials of the state government should talk to the farmers and try to find a peaceful solution. Well, I feel that both Orissa government and POSCO should sit with the farmers. The farmers are afraid of losing their livelihood. Most of them have no skill and they only can cultivate in their land.
