Yahoo India Maps and India Our City from Yahoo

India is a very important market for Yahoo. Yahoo is adding local content for Indian users on a regular basis. Yahoo is the most popular web portal in the world and millions of Indian users are regular users of Yahoo products too. I have already written about chatting in Indian languages by Yahoo.

New Kerala wrote:

The products India Our City and India Maps have been extensively designed and developed locally.

Yahoo India Our city was a innovative next generation Web2.0 mesh application. This was the direct outcome of the internal hack day event organised at Yahoo India Research and Development where the idea was conceived and productised.

Our city, covering 20 cities across the country provided an interesting, rich and dynamically updated perspective of a city as seen and experienced by people at large. The cities covered by Our City included Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai among Tier I cities and Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Madurai, Chandigarh, Jaipur and many more that did not have any noteworthy city portals.

Yahoo India Maps covered 170 cities, 4785 towns and 220 villages across the country.

This is indeed a smart move from Yahoo. Indian users would love the new products from Yahoo. I would love to see Google joining the game and providing some contents for the Indian users.
