The ascendency of India as an economic world power

Virender Sehwag is one of the most devastating openers of present day. Sehwag started his career as a middle order batsman but due to his hard hitting capability he was given the chance to open the innings in some occasions and he showed tremendous performance in opening position. Thus he became a makeshift opener in both ODI and Test team. However, in the last one year he was totally out of form that resulted his being dropped from the team in late 2006 for the West Indies-India ODI Series.

So, there was a huge speculation regarding his inclusion in the World Cup Cricket 2007 squad. At last, he could make it to the best 15 of the world cup cricket 2007. Though India shocked at its early exit from the world cup, Virender Sehwag became the most run scorer with the highest average for Indian team. He could score 164 at an average of 54.66 in the three world cup matches. Moreover, Virender Sehwag is the only centurion for India in this world cup. However, that century came against Bermuda and he did not perform so well in the other two matches.

Now, Virender Sehwag is in Bangladesh with Indian team to play in the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh. There is a huge amount of pressure on Sehwag to perform in Indian tour of Bangladesh. If he cannot perform well then his future in the Indian Team will surely be at stake.
