Indian football team has not got any big success in international football tournament so far. Their international success is limited within South Asia. Now, it seems that football infrastructure in India is not satisfactory. All India Football Federation (AIFF) has recently decided not to bid for hosting the 2011 Asian Cup Football in India. Having a lack of football infrastructure, India is not going to take part in the bidding.
Guardian reported:
"We are not making a formal bid," All India Football Federation (AIFF) secretary Albert Colaco told Reuters.
Qatar on Tuesday submitted their bid to stage the competition ahead of the Thursday deadline.
Qatar are expected to be joined by three-times champions Iran, who hosted the tournament in 1968 and 1976.
"We tried to see if it would be possible," Colaco said.
"We need two international standard stadiums in each of the cities where matches will be played. It is very tough."
Qatar and Iran are expected to join the race. In India, football is largely based on West Bengal and some other states where football league occur every year. Indian government is too much engaged with cricket and that is why football is largely neglected. If India really wants to be a respectable super power then India should give more importance to football as football is the most globalized sports in the world.
